Epson Stylus Photo R2880 A3 Photo Printer problems (help)

Good evening everyone.
My Dad recently purchased an Epson Stylus Photo R2880 A3 Printer off ebay. But we have a problem and wondered if there maybe any guru's in the photographic section that may know a thing or two about printers to help cure the problem.
Basics are when we print a photo its slightly blured/ looks out of focus. we have also done a test print off sheet with just writing on which also is blured or gives the words a '3 dimensional look'.
So far we have cleaned the ribbon, cleaned the heads (which when tested are all perfect) and also done manual and automativc adjustments several times to no avail.
Is there anything else we can try or can anyone recommend a place to send it to get fixed, i belive my Dad said epson would service it for £200 which seems abit excesive?

Any help would be appreciated

when i say recently purchased, its off ebay as above, we've had it for a couple of months, but didn't use it due to time, and the use of an older printer that was still setup.

I have a R2880 and the first thing I'd do is eliminate the software element - take a photo from the web and print it direct from your photo editing software then do the same with some simple text.

If that is blurred check the drivers. Delete the printer and download the latest drivers from the Epson site.

Next check that you're not using the wrong paper. Some very high gloss papers could be giving you trouble with the ink smearing. However, with the Matt Black ink cartridge in place and the "plain paper" selected as media in the print dialogue box you can print text very acceptably on normal cheap photocopy paper. Try a simple text print on simple paper.

Problem still there? Must be hardware I'm afraid.


It's a £700 printer that gives really amazing results with properly soft-proofed images. If it needs a couple of hundred quid to get it perfect then it's not necessarily a wasted spend.

My Epson 2100 A3 printer stopped working for no reason at all, so I left it out in the snow all night to teach it a lesson. It's worked perfectly ever since. Sometimes you need to show these things who is boss.

If you don't want to go to such extremes, I too would advise deleting the drivers and getting the latest ones.
