Standard features for 1994 1.8 S-Special Eunos

Hi

I've found a car which has a lot of bits that I want including BBS wheels, Bilstien suspension, front strut brace. It looks standard. Would this have a Limited Slip Differential?

I know that the RS-Ltd does but not sure about this one.

Yes it should. Off the top of my head S-special (like mine) should include -

1.8 engine, Yellow Strut brace, Bilstein, BBS wheels, Nardi Steering wheel and shifter, Stainless Teardrop speaker thingies and kick plates, Door pockets, Electric Windows and Mirrors, cabin brace, A/C, Headrest Speakers/Bass Thumpers, Torsen differential.

Chances of one still have all its standard features are slim though! Hope you find one the with BBS wheels on.

the S-Spec has slightly thicker Anti-roll bars too.

The sound system is a pioneer uprated one, with better speakers in the doors, with tweeters and crossover, better headrest speakers and the bass thumper thing.

I believe the rear spoiler was standard/no-cost delete.

Only came as standard on the RS, R-Limited, and VR-Limited from what I have read.

So if you have an S Special which definitely.has an LSD then you are fortunate. - I have a '95 1.8 S Special and can't say for certain whether mine has one or not.

Only way to be sure is to pop the half shafts out.

It would be nice to be proved wrong though...

Easy.. pull out of a junction with a bit of gusto and nail the throttle.. if the revs flare youll be spinning the inside and you dont have a LSD.. if it grips like a fooker and wags its tail like mine does... its a torsen

I understood all the 1.8 S-Specs had an LSD. Think mine does.

Have you checked the sticker on the driver's door shut?

Can't remember - but it says whether it was originally an S-Spec or not.

Also, not sure a/c was standard on any roadster, just an extra that was usually selected.

Thanks for the input I am looking forward to joining the MX5 community. I know how good they are already and I bet the basic 1.6 is brilliant. As usual when I learn that there are "special" ones with goodies that go beyond cosmetic then it becomes a mission to find one. I had a RX7 once and it had a few bits from the factory which made it feel special.

Anyway the vendor thinks it has a LSD though it isn't mentioned in the listing. I don't think he will want me to try to light up the back tyres out of a junction during a test drive! I could ask him if he would mind if I take notes while he wheelspins around on his lawn. There isn't going to be any ice on the road.

I had a RS2000 Escort thingy which definitely had a LSD. I took it out and had it rebuilt by Haynes of Maidstone for £60 cash. Few years back. Anyway with the back wheels jacked off the ground if you turned one wheel the other one turned in the same direction. Without a LSD the opposite wheel will stay still or even go backwards.

This doesnt always work with the MX5 as the 1.8's use a Torsen (TORque SENsing) differential.

Which means that if both wheels have zero torque, nothing locks up. There needs to be a certain amount of resistance on one side before it will balance out the torque split between both wheels.
