Fiat Punto Evo Abarth Gets Esseesse Treatment
It costs £3k, but you do get the wooden box with it...
The performance kit, which increases the 1.4-litre turbocharged engine's power to 180bhp (from 165bhp) can either be specified when you order the car, or can be fitted within 12 months or 12,500 miles of ownership (as long as it's done by an Abarth-appointed dealership).
The kit costs around £3k (prices vary depending on regional labour rates - sounds like a fine excuse to charge people more in certain areas, to us) and should take the price of an Abarth Esseesse to a whisker under £20k.
For that, you get that extra power, which is enough for the Punto Esseesse to hit 62mph from rest in 7.5secs and a top speed of 134mph. You also get uprated brakes, springs and dampers. Oh, and the wooden crate in which all the bits and bobs come? You get to keep that, too as 'an interesting memento'. Would make a decent-enough coffee table, we suppose...
Doesn't the abarth punto come with brembos anyway? I'd like to know what the kit provides in terms of uprated brakes.
I don't think I'd fork out 20 grand on a punto, only positive is that the abarth puntos are a very rare sight, compared to other hot hatches which are a dime a dozen...
I also read on the Abarth homepage for the 500 abarth the fuel economy is 33mpg from the same engine. In a heavier chassis with more power I'd expect pretty bad fuel economy figures.
I do like the idea of having something different though, power isn't everything. Looks good and would in that colour.
