Battery size question

Well my battery is definitely dying (failed to hold charge for two days and I couldn't start it this lunchtime) so I am off to buy a new one tomorrow.

I have heard some batteries are too big to fit (though this could be more related to early Chims and mine is an S plate) so I'm asking for advice on what battery people on here would recommend I get and anything to look out for - phyiscal size, specs etc.

I'll probably be buying from the local Halfords (since they're open tomorrow) if that is of relevance.

Oh well - 072 with 630amp as per the book and pray it fits then

I had a similar problem last year. After buying a replacement battery I took the old one out and while doing so saw a lot of corrosion on the battery clamps.

5 mins with a bit of sand paper on the clamps and the terminals and everything has worked very well since.

12V is a low voltage and only even a smallish amount of resistance in the terminals could stop the starter motor from being able to draw enough current to start the engine.

I bought mine from Halfords - an 072 equivalent, but it had less than 630amp, it fits ok and starts well...cost around £72 though (ouch) I could have probably got one cheaper if I'd spent a day driving about.

Thanks - same here actually! £71 for their 072 which is 590amp (but the Bible says the 065 (IIRC) is OK if you need a physically smaller battery and that has 590amps so I figured it would be OK). Good thing for me is that their 072 hadn't had a flange added and did fit in the battery box
