My first proper watch - Tissot PRC200
Discussion
Hi guys, my first post in this forum!
I turned 21 today, and wanted a proper watch as a symbol of me 'growing up'. I ended up shopping around for a few weeks and spotted the Tissot PRC200, a relatively low-price watch from a reputable Swiss maker, and I knew I had to have it. It ended up being a decision between the Tissot and a Citizen eco-drive watch, but the Citizen had a face that was slightly too long (sorry, I don't know any technical terms...) for my weak, skinny little wrist. Everyone I asked about it said that the Tissot was the way to go, so finally did the deal yesterday.
Really chuffed with it, not that I really know what is good or bad in terms of watch quality!
Here is my best attempt at a pic with my camera, it didn't want to focus on it at all. You get the idea anyway.

Hope you guys approve

True, although I recognise that i'm not fighting with the big boys here... i'm a poor student and it was a birthday present. It's definately a step-up from the rubbish I have had on my wrist before though so thought it warranted a place in here. I will hopefully build a collection in the end, I have loved hunting for watches, some are real pieces of artwork.
I wouldn't worry about keeping up with the big boys, one of the most popular threads on here is the £50 one
Glad you enjoyed the watch buying experience and IMO you've chosen well, just don't expect it to be your only purchase if you become a regular on here, student or otherwise

Lovely watch Norbs! As others have said, it's not about the price, it's whether you like it or not (and I've never seen a bad word about Tissot).
I absolutely love my watch, and it was a significant amount cheaper than yours. In fact, my friend with a lovely Tissot commented on how nice it was, which was nice! When I told him how much it cost, he was even more surprised.

Having just 'discovered' Tissot watches this year, I am very impressed with the build quality and of course their history.
I was initially put off Tissot by the fact that a certain M.Owen ( who 'played' a few football matches for Newcastle United but spent most of the time off the pitch...although he seemed to be fit to play for England at that time....!!) advertised them for years. As a result of this connection, I logically assumed that they were at the 'cheaper' end of the market, but then I bought a PR 100 chrono quartz via e bay and realised it was a very good watch.
I then bought an automatic PR100 :

that is now my daily wearer.
Having since done a bit of research on this auto movement, it transpires that it has the same base ETA movement ( ETA 2836-2) as my Oris F1 ( which was a £600 watch when new ! )
Although this white Tissot PR100 is from around 1995, it keeps very good time, and because I paid very little for it, I can wear it anywhere without any concerns.
I have also been tempted by the PR200 range, that may well be a future choice!
Tissot are a true Swiss watchmaker, and have been making watches since the late 1800's, so I would much rather own a Tissot than, say, a Citizen/Seiko ( although they are very good and I have some of theirs as well !)
Tissot have some interesting top end watches in their range...the Visodate is a classic re-issue which has quite a few fans on this forum !
The OP has made a very good choice for a first 'proper watch' !

Great choice of watch
I have a PRS 200 (slightly different design from yours) and I like it. I have had it for about 6 years and it is one of my dailys. I prefer wearing it to my Omega PO.
I also have 2 vintage Tissot's that are circa 50 and 60 years old. They are excellent watches and come from before the time Omega owned Tissot when Tissot were considered to be more upmarket and more desirable than Omega. There is some interesting history behind the brand.
My 60 year old 18k gold Tissot had an original list price of over £800 according to my watch man's catalogue. That was a lot of money in the 1950's (my parents 3 bed semi in 1960 cost them £6k) Same house is now worth £180k so that would make the watch new about £24K in todays money. Equivalent to a gold Rolex

Very nice Norbs and I doubt many of us had a watch that nice at 21 so don't ever worry about sharing your news here!
I do have one question though, why did pulse leave his mohair jumper on when he took his watch photo? ;-)

I was going to post something similar! Nice watch buddy, told you you'd like it.

I have the PRC200 and I love it too, I have it on a black strap with yellow stitching currently (I assume that you have the black and yellow one as I cannot see your pic). I bought the watch above for my brother's 18th as I thought he would really like that as well. Its a lovely watch, wear it with pride! Don't worry about cost, you have plenty of time for that! I am 29 and "only just" got one of my grails an Omega 2254.50. The Tissot was the tipping point to the slippery and expensive route I now find myself on!
In fact I need to buy another watch for my youngest brother who turns 18 in August as well....hmmmm what to get, I think I will have a browse on the £50 thread!
