I'm in a flat but not sure for how long. I'm lookinh for a freesat box but not wanting to spend loads as I night not be here long. The area is no good for a freeview box but the property/flats have a communual (no spell check...lol) dish.

Would I need a basic card too?

You wouldn't need a card.

Buy a used sky box off ebay for a few quid. It'll work a treat, only downside you'll get bbc1 london as standard, your regional bbc will be at something like number 912 on the epg.
Hope this helps

I'm not going to trawl through the Sky website but there are Free-to-air channels (e.g. BBC and ITV) that should get away without a card but other channels that are free-to-view (probably Dave as that is not available on Freesat) that need a card. The card is £25.

Why trawl through Sky's website unless you want to "pay" them for "free" satellite... their ridiculous "Freesat from Sky".

Freesat is completely free to air, and requires no cards, no monies, just a box.

Got an old Sky box (with no card).

Should I be to get Dave, sky1 etc... Because I can't. I get BBC1, BBC2, ITV (LONDON), C4, C5 and some obscure ones.

I'll do it for you

http://www.sky.com/shop/freesat/home/

Look through the site and you'll find the bit that talks about existing kit and getting a card.

Oh and I don't think 'Dave' is available check the channel listings on the site.
