I dared to overtake

Had a right joker this weekend. I was at the tail of 3 cars behind a slow (45mph) motorhome, Sherpa van sized.
I came to a straight with good sight of the road for a safe distance. The vehicle in front of me was a Honda CRV sitting a decent distance behind the next car. I indicated and accelerated past, indicated to pull back in as I knew there was a blind dip ahead.
I intended to overtake the next few vehicles on a longer stretch past the dip.
However, as I pulled back in and braked to match the speed of the car now in front, I watched the CRV accelerate towards me from behind, it took him about 5 seconds to catch up. He was shaking his fist then flashing his lights. One of those I thought. Then... he braked sharply, and his wife leant forward with both her hands on the windscreen as if she had been flung out of her seat. WTF! The pair of them were hammier than a shoulder of pork.
I gave him a thumbs up for his performance then settled back for the next overtake which left him a safe distance away.
Ridiculous behaviour from someone old enough to know better.

I overtook a bimbler this afternoon doing 25 in a 40. I didn't even hit 40 by the time I'd gone round him. I don't think he was best pleased, though, as he accelerated to about an inch off my rear bumper (funny, I thought normally BMWs tailgate Peugeots) and sat there providing some free strobe lights. I may have gradually slowed to about 25, the speed he was travelling before, which seemed to irritate him even more. Saw a car or two behind him so sped back up to 40 again which he then seemed to be content with. The mind boggles.

It's wider spread than you think, although still in the east, but in this case Scotland. Maybe he was visiting

I've found this too. I've driven all over the UK, but the road rage you get in the South East is horrendous!

Contrast that with the relaxed attitude in the republic of Ireland, where everyone moves over to the left to allow people to overtake more easily.
In 1500 miles in a week over there, I passed countless cars, and I only had one person who a) stayed pointedly towards the right of the lane, b) tried to hang me out on the overtake, and c) flashed his lights at me after I had completed.
He had a UK registration

re Ireland, tis the same in France.

Slow people know they are slow and let others make progress. Faster people make safe progress, whilst allowing slow people (cyclists, old drivers etc) safe room.

It just works better when everyone respects others rights and they don't assume they are the boss.

Its pretty much everywhere in the world except here. Greece and 'relaxed' countries like this are brilliant. Any speed you like, overtake at any point you like, and they just move onto the hardshoulder and drive down there even on bends! Brilliant!

Had a similar experience happen to me on the M6 earlier by a young girl in a Yaris, she almost buried her car in the boot of mine in her anger that someone had dared pull in in front of her(at a a perfectly safe and courteous distance and speed).

She then proceeded to pull alongside, make a hand gesture and rev the ba**s off the poor little thing, she must have been maxing it by the time she got to the new(ish) speed cameras.

I see your mistake here, you failed to barge her off the road and proceed to give her some well deserved VBRJ. You lose 10 PH points!

Ah yes, I love driving in Ireland, as has been said slow cars let you pass and many roads are wider than here to let cars pass.

Loads around my town, all driven by "older" drivers and all part of the 40mph everywhere brigade.

Down here in South Devon, overtaking has been banned outright and everyone is content (so it seems) to sit behind aholes doing 30 in nsl roads.

I bought a 5 litre V8 and rediscovered the joy in passing said bimblers and the amount of the overtaken that flash their lights afterwards is laughable.

I had exactly this last summer. I overtook someone who was going about ten below the limit perfectly safely on a long, wide stretch of the A259 (oh look south east) on a summer's day, with good visibility, in safe road conditions and with no oncoming traffic for ages. When we pulled up at traffic lights, with me in the left lane to go straight on and the other chap in the right lane to turn right, he wound his window down and accused me of pushing in. Yes, actually pushing in.

He got even more irate when I laughed at him.
