New car - BMW E39 M5

Yesterday I collected my new car. A BMW M5. It was at the cheaper end of the market, and so isn't perfect, but it's tidy enough. Bodywork is quite clean too.
I'm selling my Renault 5 GT Turbo (as I don't use it anymore) and my BMW 535i Sport (as this is the replacement), and I'm going to run just this.
Not insured on it at the moment, as I'm still insured on the 535i, and I'm going on holiday in 2 weeks, so didn't see the point.
She's got 112,000 miles, 12 months MOT, in Avus Blue with all black leather interior. It's got DSP (upgraded sound system and equaliser), steel sunroof, rear parking sensors, and all the other usual toys.
Vanos is pretty noisy, but it's a common trait with these cars, and it should be fine (touch wood)

Because it was considerably cheaper than other ones I looked at, the bodywork was better, and the vanos wasn't much worse. Plus, I don't mind getting my hands dirty, so it's something I may look into rectifying in the future. plenty of others out there..... why this one ? (genuine question not being rude)

It's a common issue as I'm sure you're aware, and just because it's noisy doesn't mean it's badly damaged / dysfunctional. The 'diesel' noise is mainly down to worn gears, however they still do their job.

BMW Fanatic here lol.O that's fair enough I was intrigued by your decision, as there are plenty on the market. That's fair enough if you can do it and would atleast enjoy replacing the VNS.
Well you never know if it is damaged/how much it's damaged until it fails completly.... but yes they usually have as you described a " diesel sort of clatter" when they start to struggle due to wear...

With regards the DS. It's my dads! It does run, but it's not moved for some time unfortunately. He has got plans for it though.. It's a French LHD car and he's got a RHD front end. The plan is to use the RHD front end, and convert it to RHD. Plus it need some bodywork. It is a very good looking car though

These are just the bomb in my book. Have massive fun and look after it so that there are still decent ones left when I come round to buy one!

Oh she will be looked after! I'll be doing all the work myself on it, so won't be your traditional 'Full BMW Service history' looked after, but more of a DIY looked after! I prefer it that way anyway, as it means I know that the work has been done to my own standards.
Tbh, I can see the car staying with me for some time.. I've wanted one for a while now, and I don't really see myself in anything else, as there isn't really a lot that can touch it, either in terms of value for money terms, or just as much of a good all rounder
