Dodge Ram....Hummer....? Hmmmmm

Hi

Being in the fortunate position of coming into quite a bit of cash, I feel the urge to treat myself and buy a ridiculous vehicle

At the fore front is the Dodge Ram crew cab pickup, but the smal child in me wants to say, sod it, and get a hummer because I just love the sheer size and daftness of them.

I'm off back to uni, so commuting wont be an issue. It'll just get used for general knocking around and climbing and surf trips so probably only 5kish miles a year.

I'd probably buy on converted or budget for converting to lpg. Obviously realising it'll take miles to break even. But being converted will help me be a little more free wheeling with the mileage I think

So are there people on here who've had either?, preferably both

-Did you enjoy the experience?
-What are the service intervals like?, whom does one get to do it?
-Ram or hummer?

I'd get the Ram. You could have a sensible-ish diesel like so:

Diesel.

Or you could have an SRT-10:

SRT-10.

That diesel has a Hummer well and truely defeated in terms of size as well

If you can get a real Hummer, ie the H1, get it. If you can only get the fake Hummers (H2, H3) which are a standard pickup chassis wearing camo trousers, get the Ram.

H1 or an SRT-10 otherwise don't bother (although a supercharged 4x4 hemi could have it's uses )

Of the two I'd take the SRT-10 it's stupidly fast for a vehicle of that size.

I've driven both, personally I'd opt for an LPG'd hemi'd Ram, or how about a new shape Jeep Wrangler as another option

No joke. I saw one of these for £20k about 6 months ago. If you wanted something smaller like a Sabre, you'd probably have 5-6k in change.

If you like big, cool 4x4's, I couldn't ignore a V8 Range Rover at that budget! Faster, cooler, better looking and does the same job as the Ram and the Hummer really.

I own a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel crew cab longbed 4x4. It has 254,000 miles on the odo. I have owned it since new. In 14 years I have had two problems, a bad ABS computer in 2001, and the exhaust rusted out two years ago, and was replaced with stainless. Everything on the truck still works as new (A/C, pw, pdl, p/mirrors, cruise, etc.). It tows our 28' fishing boat (12,000 lbs), and its long wheelbase and ability to carry toys make it the first choice for long trips. I consistently get 18mpg/city, and 21-22 hiway.
I occasionally consider buying a new, or newer one, but I lay down until the feeling passes.

I am not even going to go into what's wrong with the hummer because the list is too long and I don't care how much you have you will truly be crying when it comes time fuel it. It is also just a rebodied chevy tahoe with a more robust suspension. The ram is solid but I honestly think there's a lot of other cars that are better suited to what you want to do. Whihc is draw attention to yourself, say hey look at me and have the biggest car possible with occasional use of cargo space

Damn I hate having to be sensible. I've enough to buy a house, probably looking at 150k mark, leaving quite a bit left over. But the course is medicine so I need 5 years of living exenses so spending a chunk on a daft car may be, well, daft.

So if we segue into more of a general what car, what 4x4 would I be looking at for up to 10k

-p38 (naaaaa too many issues)
-Defender (had a 110 td5, loved it but rubish on motorway)
-X5??
-Hilux surf??
