I've the opportunity to buy a 2006 D3 HSE from a friend so I know the history of the car which has been faultless up until now. I've been a bit twitchy about purchasing a D3 having read the various tales about reliability (including appearing in many rankings for breakdowns) however, I'm equally reassurred about this particular car as I know its history. To help make the leap a few things on my mind:

- I think I've read somewhere there's a distinct improvement in the D3 from 2006 on. Correct? If so, what changed?

- The car's just been serviced and MOT'ed so most issues will have been sorted/highlighted but at around 40k mileage what are is essential maintenance items I should expect to have been addressed i.e. belts?

- No warranty, as it's a private sale, but I want one - AA or WD?

- Any other Qs I should explore before parting with the cash?

cheers in advance.

forget the warranties you can 'buy' - more holes in them than in a wes knickers

an acquaintance 'sells' them - does he have a warranty on his car? - NO

speaks volumes

I've had a 2006 HSE since new, 112,000 trouble free miles later, I wonder where the statistics come from!

As above disco3.co.uk is invaluable, the belts all need doing at 105,000 or (I think) 7 years?????

WD have the best rep on these cars, i'm just about to go with them having finished my LR extended warranty.

We had an 06 D3 HSE (bought new)for 4 years and 42k ish miles. No problems other than a failed parking sensor. I wish I could say the same for the Audi RS4 and Porsche Cayenne I owned! It was replaced with a Disco 4.

3 friends have run Disco's 3's and none of them have reported major issues or any breakdowns. 2 have replaced with new/newer LR products, the 3rd still owns his and will replace it with the all new FFRR when it's launched.
