... Looking to chop in my old 360 and get one of the new 250gb units, but I know the external HD I have on my current box won't fit on to the new one. So can I go about transferring the data onto the new Xbox without having to buy the new one upfront? Would they do it at Game?

Any advice gratefully received!

Why not buy the new one, transfer with the cable, then take the old one in? Do they do a better deal if it's traded in at the same time? I'm sure Game come across this a lot and will have an answer for you.

Well I was hoping to avoid two trips to Game, having to buy the lead and not being able to use the money I get from the trade in on the new box.

I have heard of Game doing the transfer for you if you are swapping it on the spot, though it might be worth checking before you take it all down there.

If you've got some 16gb USB sticks then you can transfer your data to them first and then back to your new one when you get it.

Isn't particularly quick though, and it won't transfer any game you've installed, plus you'll have to attach your games/DLC to your new console on Xbox.com

Well, contrary what was said here and what Game told me on the phone, they'll do the transfer for free, providing you buy the £15 cable (which they don't use!). Still, got it now. Was a bit bummed when they told me my beloved core system, which I've had for years, was worth £20 in trade value!

I think there used to be a shared cable on here that used to get sent for free from person to person.

You could probably get £40-£50 for it privately.

You can dismantle the drive unit, remove the hd, and slot it in the new slimline. That's how I got a hd for my 4gb slim. Look it up on google or YouTube....it's very easy to do

No doubt. But I'm impatient and couldn't be bothered with Fleabay! smile Still, with a few other bits and pieces I got over £90 trade-in. So all good in the end, and now have a shiny new Xbox to play with!
