What should one do if a car is advertised here as 'having very light rear clam damage' but is actually a cat C repaired? Current owner has only had the car a short time so may/may not be aware. I wouldn't have bothered if the car was priced/described to reflect it's history but it isn't.

two options.. one is report the advert (the report link is available on all adverts), the other is to contact the seller to ensure that they are aware of it..

In fact, it may be worth doing both..

Cat C could mean "very light rear clam damage". It's nothing to do with the amount of damage, it's to do with the cost of repairs weighed up against the value of the car.

Category C - Repairable. Significant damage. Cost of the repair is more than book value of vehicle at dealer rates.

But thats because the Clio was worth half of fk all in the first place ,yes?

However, I sort have indicated the type of car by the description of the damage so a Cat C in this particular car is slightly different kettle of fish.

Anyway, sent the vendor a very polite email. I shall await a response.

I only say so as the chap in question is a 'dealer' and the car has been 'sold today'.

And I made a phone call.

So yes, on further questioning, he did know it was a Cat C (obviously as he bought the car from a very well know scrap company that flogs exotica) but fixed it himself but wasn't that bothered if, 'idiots want to give me money without checking things out first'.

At least he was polite.....before he put the phone down.

Something like an Mk1 mx5 for example more often than not light rear damage does equal write off.
