On 9 July 2011, Tim Butcher, Motörhead leader Lemmy's longtime bass technician, reported that Würzel has died, but did not reveal the cause of death. Before he died, Würzel was working on new material with his new band, Leader of Down, who had previously announced the release of their debut single for early 2010

As a big Motorhead fan I had the pleasure of seeing Würzel a couple of times.

At my school in the 80s there was a small, quiet chap that used to set up the equipment for the science classes, his name was Ivor.
One day we discovered his son had joined Motorhead, he became the coolest bloke in the school.
RIP Wurzel.
