UK registered car - buying
Discussion
Hi
I live in England and have seen a car for sale in Monaghan that I want to buy - it has a UK registration plate and the owner says NCT expired February 2011.
Can you advise me - what do I need to do prior to bringing it back to England?
MOT? Tax Disc?
I *know* I am being hugely naive!!!!
Cheers

NCT is the Irish test, same as MOT. I wouldnt have thought they could NCT a UK/NI registered car though.I live in England and have seen a car for sale in Monaghan that I want to buy - it has a UK registration plate and the owner says NCT expired February 2011.

If it is still a full UK/NI registered car, and taxed as such. Then it is no different than you buying a local car. If driving it, just needs tax, MOT and insurance.
It will be easier for you if you take home the full V5(NI) as you just hand this in and get a V5 in your name.
If you dont do this, it may be a hassle when re-registering.
Either way if it is registered in Northern Ireland on a V5(NI) when you take it home, it is still classed as importing. As dumb as that sounds.
Same when we buy a car from England etc. We need to hand in the V5, and get a V5(NI)
