HH junior's first car - Fiat Punto Sporting

HH junior # 1 will be learning to drive shortly so we've bought him his first car - and something that we can also use as a station hack before then.

It's an 07 plate Punto Sporting 1.4 with all of 94hp with 20K miles and one previous owner, and I paid what I thought was a very good price. It's utterly horrendous to drive, with the lightest totally feel-free steering I've ever come across. I'm not sure how it handles as I haven't tested it in the twisties, but I suspect it won't be wonderful! It does, however, look quite good (IMO), is very light on the gas, and comes very well equipped with lots of leather bits, bluetooth, CD, etc, etc..

Good question, not sure yet, but not expecting it to be too bad (I hope!). I have multi-car insurance covering all my cars and it was only £250 to add the Fiat fully comp business and pleasure.

I'm sure it'll be cheaper than adding him to my IS-F or the wife's Pathfinder!

Prepare to lube up, it'll very expensive.

Coming from experience of trying to insure something for myself (currently learning to drive).

yeah that could be expensive, after i passed my test my insurance was around £2000 for a 1.1 citroen C2 that had about 60hp.

Insurance group 7 so it could be very painful to insure. It looks quite nice though, I've always quite liked the new shape Punto.

Looks smart, £2000+ is my guess, cost me £2400 for my 17 year old son to go on a Fiat Panda along with his 19 year old sister. He now is persuading me to get him a 1 series and I've almost said yes, hate to think what that will be.

If he is 17, the insurance will be horrible on 1.4, when I was learning anything over 80bhp it was basically forget it lol

I pay about £900 for mine. It would be £750 if I could insure it at my parent's house.

If he is 17 I am predicting at least £2500 probably more like £3,000+ it's the sportier 1.4 version you should be prepared to bend over aged 17 wait to 18 and may be slightly better...

Looks a great first car! I will be looking at first cars too aswell soon, so I am looking at many cars like this.

It may be very insurance dependant as quotes vary. Looks to me Admiral Multi-Car is the way forward.

Probably should've checked insurance first, you'd be surprised what motors are expensive and what isn't! I live in a pretty undesirable postcode, but IIRC I got quoted £5000ish (cheapest) on a 1.25 Fiesta compared to £2980.44 for a 1.4 Astra. It's utterly bonkers.

Either which way, I have a soft spot for these Puntos; would love a go in an Abarth
