Well sometimes much like beer the best ones are free ( or darn close ) so i want to hear your ideas about free cars! How to get them (legitimately), your ownership of them if you're driving a free car now or free cars stories. In fact I know a 39 year old lady that has never ever bought herself a car they've always been free! I know another guy that''s got a van (okay not a car really) for free in exchange for painting let me know

Through my work I managed to procure a free Volvo 440 for my mum (well it was free to me, I charged her £50 for it) to run about in after she wrote her car off to cover the interim until she'd been paid and could go looking for a replacment. That was five years ago and she still has it, having added another 40-odd thousand miles to the 90-odd it started out with. It's cost her a set of tyres and MoTs and an oil and filter change each year since and that's it.

I've managed two, a Fiat Uno Turbo and a Fiesta 1.1 popular!

The Uno was a "non runner" and the previous owner was sick of it, so just wanted rid of it.

I went to collect it, and took some bits and pieces to try and get it running.

Took about 5 minutes to find it needed an ignition amplifier, so i fitted a new one and drove the car away!

Second one, again unloved, mate had bought a new car and just said "its got a flat battery, please take it away"

I was certain you were a nice bloke.

Was the catch with those tickets that I would have had to sign a 4 year finance agreement or something? wink

She sent me out to find a car for up to £300 so she had a result as far as she was concerned. I had to do paperwork and everything. hehe

It's small recompense for the inevitable and unending earache I'd get if anything EVER went awry with it. She'll get it back if and when she I sell it for her. She'd make a profit even I scrapped it so tongue out

hehe

Actually my current car is free sort of.

Bought the last one for £1000 from my dear old Mum, some scruffy halfwit drove into the side of me, I haggled with the insurance co and was paid £2000 for it. Bought the Volvo for £1000, leaving me with my original £1000.

No i think her first two were given to her by her father then the rest were a result of trades for her current car and then I think her husband got her two or some sort of odd combination but I was pretty shocked

I bought my first car for £1000, drove it into a wall, insurance wrote it off and gave me £1450 for it, and let me keep it. I fixed it with my mates with £100 worth of scrapyard bits.

This equals a free car and £350 profit.

It was a 1992 Ford Orion 1.3 Ghia in Moondust Silver, I loved it.

confused I'm sure many husbands pay for the cars their wives have - nothing unusual in that, surely?

I think I paid for SWMBOs KA but I don't class that as her getting a free car.

I acheived a similar feat with a lovely G-reg 309 I bought a good few years ago. Paid £880 for it. About a fortnight later a muppet rear-ended me, basically caving in one of the rear corners. Insurance deemed it unrepairable so gave me £1300 for it. And I bought it back for £50.

One tail light later, I managed to sell the car with said damage a couple of months down the line for £700 I believe.

So much win!

Sold a car to a friend, who took it on a trackday and wrecked the engine due to low oil. Sat in his garage for a while until he needed the space for a kitcar being delivered, so he offered it back to me for free if I'd collect it.

Now has a new engine and is my trackday car :-)

i got a 1.1 lx fiesta as my first car needed some work on the steering cost about £25 to fix myself had one owner and 39000 from new L reg in 2004. Had one key for ignition, one for door and one for the boot.

I serviced it and the oil was like treacle as it had only been serviced once. Head gasket went after 4 months and 8000 miles i got £500 trade in.

About a year ago there was someone offering a free car here on piston heads. Its was a little 1.4 Metro, not roadworthy but could have been. It sat in a shed until a couple of months ago when I sold it for £100 as someone wanted the engine out of it.

See that's the type of car stories I was ;looking for! I know there are some free gems out there that need some work and love and maybe even some restoration
