Reality TV. Real or Real Fake?

So I am watching the fine show "Jersey Shore" and of course all these show have one theme and that is a lot of drinking one of the female characters starts punching one of the male characters and then suddenly out of nowhere two big security guys pop out of a corner of the hotel room or something and restrain the guy. I have noticed that there have been many other fights but they just let them go until they get done or too out of hand. I think that at the very least they set up volatile situations with conflicting personalities. i don't know if they can script some of this stuff but they can fuel the fire.

So is it real or fake?
