anyone recognise this cruise control part?

The cruise control has stopped working on my old Corolla after many years sterling service... Its an after market type of unknown make, I have had it on my last 3 cars and transferred it to the Corolla a few years ago... I cant see any name on any of the components.

its senses the speed of the car off a couple of magnets on the inner drive shaft CV joint and the little coil you see in the pictures below. I checked the Ohm reading on the coil and it was open circuit, suggesting there was an internal break in the wire, hence i broke it apart.

Anyone any Idea what the part could possibly be off and where I could obtain a replacement?

The way you describe it working, I believe that is a Hall effect sensor. The magnet passing near the coil of wire creates a pulse of current which is read by an ECU. I guess your new coil would need ot be of similar proportions so that the pulse is also similar, and your cruise control ECU will stand a hance of understanding it. I'm no expert though!

You could try an ABS sensor in it's place? The slightly older 2 wire kind.

Good suggestion, but it didn't work so I resorted to making a new coil which I then grafted into the original body...

In the picture you can see the new bobbin and the mandrel that was used to wind it. the wire is only 2 thou so its pretty fine! there was an amazing amount of wire in such a small coil! Anyway, all done and back to normal, thanks for the suggestions!
