Please don't tell me off mods as I know this may stray into the plod thread but it was a genuine pub chat question................

If you get banned for whatever reason can you go to another EU country and take a driving test, get a licence and drive in the UK?

My mate says no as your name is on DVLA as being banned.
I thought maybe as other EU residents can drive over here on there own licences but then pondered the insurance issue and if you needed a car registered in said country?

No, but you can drive abroad on another EU licence, IIRC.

If you are banned in this country you are banned from driving in this country no matter what country your licence is issued.
If you are banned in this country you are banned from driving in other countries if you are relying on your GB licence.
If you are banned in this country & hold a licence from a different country, you are only banned in this country not other countries.

(Should add there are some exceptions in relation to Northern Ireland, Ireland & Isle of Man who have reciprocal agreements with GB).
