Spent my Sat at Cadwell park testing in a 1997 Formula Renault which i will be racing in a couple of weeks.

what a rush. doesnt quite have the same power to weight as my Noble just under 400bhp/ton but the cornering is just mind blowing!

cheers

Looks like you've got a blown diffuser, mate! may have to have several meetings before you're allowed to race.

fun, definitely, but it is such an intense assault on the senses you have to remind yourself how much fun it is. i would say more challenging than fun if that makes sense.
i'm skinny but i could do with being a little shorter that's for sure. my leg was up against the gearshift, the knees where tucked up against the wheel and my elbows we banging on the sides in heavy corners and i now have bruises on my arms.
Taking turn one at Cadwell flat in top gear was just insane and being foot flat round Chris curve before the goose-neck was also a highlight.

here is a pic of where i had to feed myself...

The car raced for 2/3 years in formula Renault and won the championship, i believe. it then sat in a shed for 10 years until AW bought it last year and rebuilt it in the off season. There was a problem with the gearchange and certain gears would not engage (no comments Tux ;-)) and once that was sorted the gearbox seemed to be jumping out of gears after down changes, not on upchanges. Aparently there was damage to the dog rings which was the cause of it jumping out of gear. We weren't timing properly although Andy reckoned i was about 1min30s even with the gears jumping out (my MR2 is about 1min47s so a massive difference in speed from what i am used to)
The day was good though as i now feel comfortable in the car and apart from the gearbox the car was faultless so roll on Snetterton 30/31.

If anyone wants to try a car which is a good step towards the single seater i would recommend a Caterham R300 race car from Book a track. you can get them on trackdays, i rented one earlier in the year and it is the closest thing to the single seater i have driven.

cheers
