Rust. And Rust. With some rust thrown in.
Check the rear arches, the front footwells (inside and outside), behind the rear number plate, inside the rear arches in the boot, under the spare tyre, front scuttle, under the water bottle, the battery, and the triangular stiffening braces just under and at the back of the head lights.
Oh and if it's got a sunroof - check the insides of that too. Also the sills under the body kit.
they rust from the inside out so if you can see it........

I had a E30 320i se coupe. Best car I have ever owned. The E30 chasis can be a lil twitchy but if your used to RWD you wont have a problem, in fact you'll prob make the most of it, lots of fun. I didn't have any major worries with my car but all I would say, apart from checking the usual spots for rust, is keep an eye on the electrics. I did start having the odd issue with mine. Nothing too heavy though.
Generaly, go and enjoy. A great drivers car and one that's look has aged beautifuly. E30's look as good today as they ever did.
Happy motoring :-)

No probs with the chassis, I love the fact its so happy to go sideways
Amazingly, it seems to almost entirely devoid of the evil brown. 14 years of care from its previous female owner has seen to that, I guess! A little on the bootlid. Otherwise, tidy, The original red paint has done what red always seems to do though, and faded badly on some panels - any tips for restoration (or at least, improving - T cut has not proved up to the job!).

machine polish until nice and red, wipe down with neat isopropyl alcohol and coat the paint with a coating called gtechniq C1 to stop further UV damage
