How Quickly Does Petrol Degrade / Lose Octane ?

Hi,

I know petrol degrades but does anyone know roughly how fast ?

I have bought an RX7 which has to run on Super and its got half a tank that's 18 months old.

I'm wondering whether I can just add some octane booster or drain it and stick it in the snotter.

18mth old fuel which has been stored in the petrol tank will run rough.

Would have been better to put fuel stabiliser in before laying up.

As it is now, I guess you could try adding octane booster, but I'd rather drain (or syphon) it out and use it in a lower performance car.

I would either add Octane booster and run it through or top up with Super unleaded and then run it through.

Yeah, yeah! Hindsight etc. I was just making the point that in an ideal world 'Plan A' is not to just stick octane booster in at the end. But given where you are now it might make a workable 'Plan B'.

My Corrado VR6 has been parked up for just over 4 years (still arguing over a bloody insurance claim!)

I had to move it a couple of weeks ago, put a fresh battery on it and it started like it was parked up yesterday!

My father in law had a load of small drums of fuel, 100 plus litres for his generator, decided it was too old and needed replacing and was pondering how to dispose of 100 litres of unleaded, I gave him a hand and put it in my car at the time that ran perfectly fine on it, so no good for a Honda generator but Saabs run great on it !

It will be fine, a Rotary will rip through it in no time, and ask for more, then some oil and new rotor tips for afters !
