Are they on the rise? I check what's on the classifieds once or twice a week and I'm sure they seem a bit higher than a few weeks ago...

Me too!

However, I'd be wary about reading too much into this. This is a very specialised segment of the market and, especially in the current environment, turnover numbers will be tiny - so watching price fluctuations on a weekly basis is probably next to meaningless...

Exactly. Prices fluctuate due to lack of the cheaper cars (sometimes they just all get sold).

Yeah sadly the only ones which are asking reasonable money are late plate low mileage cars and I don't know how many of those are actually selling..

Everything else is still only going one way, which is a shame.

As others have said they do fluctuate depending on whats available. Longer term the pricing trend for them is only going to go one way; downwards. I reckon they will bottom out at around £5k in the not to distand future. Already seeing ropey ones around that level. Of course there will always be exceptions and enthusiast owned and cared for examples will buck the trend and be able to command a premium. All IMO of course.

.... As soon as they drop to £5k and I can find a nice one in Imola Red i'm buying!

You and I must be the only fans of Imola red. I Just bought an Imola red M3 and the Wife doesnt like the colour. I think it suits it, and its rarer than the other colours.

I love Imola Red. I like it on E46 M3's, particularly when on the 19" wheels. Normally I prefer the 18" wheels on E46 M3's.

Will you upload some pics of your new purchase i'm sure many here would be keen to see...

Could be something in what you say....

This one was recently advertised here and has now been put back up by the same owner with an extra £2k on the asking price but no difference to the description??!!

And I thought the market for high performance vehicles was struggling at the moment?

The problem with buying these cars so cheap is that they send out an message that reads '£5k car = £5k car running costs'!! Amazing how quick people run away from ownership when the first service comes up or something breaks. I think its best that that they keep above £10k, unrealistic or not. That way they keep out of the hands of the chavs and people who generally should not own one.

Just my 2p.

Agree 100%. You have to go in with eyes open.If you are doing any sort of mileage you're looking at another £5k to run the thing each year.
I ran my last one for 20 odd months, put 50000 miles on it and probably spent £15k on it.
Still I bought another one so it must have been worth it.

Mine has the 18" wheels on, which were not my first choice. I am thinking about CSL alloys when if I change them as I prefer them to the 19". I have put Eibach springs on it too, so dont want to ruin the ride.
Mine were only refurbed last year and has new tyres on so would be a waste to change now.

Part exchanged mine for £2750 and it's up for auction soon so it will be interesting to see where it crops up and for how much.

£2750? Very high miles I take it? Or did it need quite a bit doing to it?

Where did you part ex it? Might be able to work out which auction it will turn up at...

176K on the clock, thousands spent (Clutch, Discs, Pads, Fuel Pump, thermo, centre drag, just had rear tyres, O2 sensor) etc

Still needed stuff doing hence why I got shot frown I know where it is being auctioned. Email me for details and a frank description of what needed doing.

£2750 for a running e39 M5 ? Jesus you have been robbed mate !

The engine and gearbox are worth £2k plus suspension, axle, brakes, interior, exhaust with cats etc is easily another £2k plus you have a shell which is worth £500 or more plus a set of wheels is £500 plus.

Perhaps but it still needed money spending on it and I didn't need the hassle if selling it privately. Yes I know it was cheap but I got a good deal on the car I brought so I was happy. The engine management light was coming on and off and I had a feeling it was not 100%.
