Just wondering if I could harness the power of PH for a few hints and tips about accommodation and eating.

We are going to be having a very small wedding in Edinburgh in september. Would like some accommodation for us, near the centre, not too pricey but obviously if it was slightly special, this would be good considering the occasion.

What would be good is if we could get the two families close by but we also want everyone to have some space (not least us).

perhaps more importantly, need somewhere to have a meal for about 16 or 17 people. Obviously we want good food and most importantly, a little bit of privacy and we don't want to feel rushed. Any ideas on that front? Again, good quality but not too pricey.

have to admit scotland was chosen because we don't have to be there for x weeks in advance before we are married (living abroad) but edinburgh seems like it will be a nice city to do this.

Norton House Hotel on the outskirts of town, very nice and they do have private rooms for party dinners, have stayed a fews times and have never been unhappy with anything

I've been at a wedding reception there, really nice venue and grounds but the drink was really overpriced (even for a nice hotel) and the food was very average indeed - maybe it's completely different if you're staying as a private guest as the wedding function suite is in a separate wing?

I was at a wedding there last August, the bride was very particular about the food that was to be served and got everything spot on, it was a really enjoyable day. Expensive drink though, but nothing a hip flask of Morgan's Spiced couldn't fix.

OP - where is the wedding?

thanks for the replies guys smile

wedding is in the registry office - we live abroad but are UK/Irish citizens and so scotland seemed like the easiest option as it doesn't require any period of residence beforehand smile

we've got accomodation now, most i've ever spent on a hotel so I hope it is going to be good. - there will only be 15 people altogether going - us and our two families smile

which brings me to my next questions - we want somewhere decent for a meal, in the centre of town or thereabouts, that might be able to provide a private room for us... any ideas?

What is it with the Norton House? Nice enough but it's next to the airport ffs. you could be anywhere.

We stayed in the Witchery on our wedding night. Approx £300 a night but worth it. You get a couple of bottles of decent champagne each night too.

Private dining? Oloroso has a private room with a great Castle view. Looking at £80 a head with wine for a tasting menu. I think the place is a bit up itself so can suggest more places if you'de like.
