Buying private car with private plate needs retaining

OK, I sold my last car with still my private plate on it. The buyer was happy for me to keep the v5c, so that I could retain my number plate, wait for the new v5c, tax disc, mot replacement to come to me and then send off new reg, tax, mot to the new owner and then i would update the new keeper details myself. All went well.
Now reversing the role, i'm the buyer which the car has a private plate on, do i let the seller do the same or push for the v5c new reg keeper and for me to promise to retain their private plate for them?
