Up to two hours' drive from the bottom of the M11 (so 1 hour from West London). Preferably next to the coast, a pub by a river or canal, or similar.

We've just bought a new tent and need to go and test it out smile

I've been here a couple of times, my parents love the place. Might be on the bubble for your 2hr limit though.

Facilities very clean, right on the river/mill/lock. Couple of pubs in the village.

This looks like it should fit the bill.

Can't recommend anywhere in particular, but www.ukcampsite.co.uk has a pretty good user review section - I found a perfect campsite in The Lakes recently thanks to that website.

Let us know where you go/how you get on, I'm not a million miles away from you and looking for somewhere pleasant for the odd long weekends camping.

Not sure on camp sites as it's not my thing, but I would highly recommend the Aldeburgh area on the Suffolk coast which will be just inside your travel 'limit'. I'm sure a quick Google search would track something down, and I believe there is somewhere in Aldeburgh itself.

A lovely area with lots to see and do.
