Metering Head has just arrived..
Discussion
Morning peeps..Well the metering head turned up half hour ago and its the best pressie ive had in a long time..Even though i paid for it myself..I just really hope this cures all my woes..The guy at KMI worked flat out to build one and get it here for today..What a star..Having it fitted in about an hour...I cant wait..Ziga

Looks nice Zig, can you turn it upside down take a snap of the other side for me?Dave.
Well..The good news..Its now running on all cylinders...
..The Bad news..Its still got hot starting issues..
..Im just going out there to try to clamp off the return line from the accumulator to the tank as that was leaking a while back and even though it was tightened up..Apparently it is not supposed to leak..It could be a quick fix with a cable tie and a kinky pipe..Let you know in about half hour..Ziga

..
..
..Well i clamped off the return line from the accumulator........Petrol poured out...
..Oh stop balling...
..Right..Un-clamped it and the petrol stopped..
..Which would suggest that the accumulator is knackered..The guy from kmi is sending me something to cap the return line off properly..FOC..So bring a portable ramp to BBWF and i can sort it..The good news is that i should still be able to make it..AND the petrol shouldnt pee out..
My door seals came today while i was out so i will pick them up in the morning and do them..At last something simple to do..Cheers..Ziga

Zig,
A thought on hot starting... the formulation of fuel has changed over the years and modern fuel is much more volatile than the fuel that was around when the 2.8 was current. This means it's much more likely to flood on modern fuel than the original stuff - so what you think is a problem may be normal behaviour. Do you hold the throttle open when cranking with a hot engine? I have an old Merc with a mechanical CIS and this is the only way it'll start when hot.
What do other people find with the 2.8?

Hi mate..Sometimes it does start a bit easier when i pump the throttle or push it down and hold it for a few seconds then release it..I have the pump on ignition at the moment opposed to cranking..When the guy at sanspeed clamped the return fuel line from the metering head even though the car was hot it started on the button..He repeated this 4-5 times and every time it started almost instantly..His diagnosis was that the fuel pressure was falling away as soon as you turn the ignition off which to him could be..1.Metering Head..2.Accumulator..3.Non-Return valve in fuel pump..I suppose once ive replaced the accumulator..The thermo time switch..The WUR and checked the fuel pump everything should be hunky dory..When i clamped the return line from the accumulator to the fuel tank it started a lot better but when i un-clamped it as there was petrol coming out of the pipe at the back the car stalled..The petrol stopped coming out and the car started a bit better again??..The accumulator seems to be leaking fuel back to the tank without holding pressure..If i could get the car up in the air and remove the pipe and turn the ignition on to see if petrol pishes out then that would confirm the accumulator being at fault..Chimpafrolic was right to suggest a fuel pressure gauge on the system but i couldnt get anyone to do it this week..I will persevere..Cheers..Ziga
Hi Mark, really sorry to hear the metering head didn't solve the problem
Fookin thing needs a good spanking, but the good news is you have at least eliminated the following:

Fookin thing needs a good spanking, but the good news is you have at least eliminated the following:
- Control plunger
- Primary pressure regulator
- Control pressure regulators
- Push up valve
- Debris inside the metering head
- Warm up regulator
- Thermo timer switch
- Accumulator
- Auxiliary air valve
- Fuel pump
- Blocked fuel filter
- Blocked fuel line (feed or return)

The new metering head has solved one of his two problems so its 50% sorted.
It now runs on all six, due to a faulty metering head being replaced.
The Hot start problems are something completley differant!
He has replaced most of the other things as well!
So I think it's a good head scratch at BBWF to sort it!

Hi Dave..Ive had a new fuel pump..Fuel filter..All the fuel lines cleared through..And i tested the Auxillary air valve with a heat gun and it was closing..Put it in the fridge and it opened, Not sure about the electrical side of things though..The fuel accumulator was one of the things that got overlooked when the car had the tanks out and the fuel lines cleared..Maybe i should check the condition of the fuel filter again?..At least the exhausts are even now and there is no more popping on the drivers side with the occaisional misfire..Im not sure if the car feels faster with the cylinder working again...Im sure i should notice a difference?..Cheers..Ziga
