Was happily ferrying my little brothers to school today when all of a sudden a loud BANG was heard, then the car jumped out of gear followed by a rattling sound coming from the depths of the engine bay. Cue hilarious laughter from my brothers due to some rather tastefull words coming out of my mouth (not proud.) anyway I'm now waiting for the garage to confirm what I all ready know (gearbox is fked as they say in France.) so looking on the bright side at least I have an excuse to get a new, old car although that is what I planned anyway. Just wished I would have done it sooner. So now looking for a proven RELIABLE car, under £1000. And an engine of no more then 2.0L. I would like a jap car and have been looking at the colts, what are they like? MX 5 is an option but with only 2 seats not favored.
Any other cars I should consider? (not neceraly jap) Cheers.

Mmmmmm, triplets. When I saw the thread title, I was wondering how they'd have a motoring connection. very disappointed by this thread, title promised more than it could every deliver.

They once did a celebrity photographer photo shoot with a NASCAR racer taking the photos, so there is a connection with cars. Apparently their parents tattooed dots on their backsides, one, two and three, when they were babies to distinguish between them. They look very patriotic.

Predominately yes, but we're just like toddlers in that if we see something shiny like a spelling mistake we forget everything else and play with that!

I'd expect some proper help about this time tomorrow!

As for your what car, I'd suggest looking to see what the local minicab drivers are using, Nissan Bluebirds used to be a favourite. That way you can be sure of reliability!

For your money, you want a bullet proof engine, tidy & with service history. Otherwise you'll end up throwing money at it.

I was going to suggest a base engine corrado until I saw reliable... my mate managed to pick up a tidyish old merc c250 for a few hundred at an auction.
