Digital Point and Shoot

Quick bit of help please ?
My wife is off to Florida for a week (leaving me with the kids !) to visit her Uncle in August and I would like to get her a small digital point and shoot.
I have a 450d which is far too big for her to take and far too many settings etc.
So I am looking for a small easy to operate digital camera that is not going to break the bank !

I bought a panasonic tz8 just before going into the jungle 6 weeks ago, lots of manual settings, x12 optical zoom and a 25mm equiv lens. Takes nice pics too, all in not bad for 165 euros as it's not the latest and greatest model

Sorry Burba - it really needs to be as cheap as possibile.
I just know that after the trip to the US it will be borrowed by the teenage kids (I wont let them take the 450d) and then dropped in the sea/swimming pool/nightclub/you get the picture and runined.
So easy to operate and cheap as you like whilst not a complete waste of money.
Only really going to be used for snapshots, pictures of family etc.

Thanks GetCarter - too many pennies for me - however love the cars and the house if fact the house more - one day, one day !

You can get some of the waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof Olympus mu range from about £100 now. They won't have S95 like IQ, but they're okay for holiday snaps, and hard to kill.

Yep, and still use it. I bought the S95 cos it's half the size and lives in jeans pocket. Mrs Get uses the Leica more than me I have to admit.

Canon G12 is capable of some cracking photos. (Might be a bit pricey though as it's approaching entry level SLR prices.

If it doesn't need to be waterproof, almost any of the compact Canon cameras would be good - I can vouch for the superb results of the Ixus range, and they usually win any group test.

If waterproof/dustproof is part of the spec, the Panasonic Lumix FT10 is the one to have. I've bought and sold three waterproof cameras in the past six months because the picture quality was rubbish - Fuji and Olympus both failed miserably, Pentax barely came close.
