Are diesel Jag X-types AWD????

Hi guys,

looking at a cheap runabout for the wife...

In terms of comfort i am thinking about opting for a cheapish X-type diesel..

Regarding the snow. Does the diesel variant come as AWD???

No, both the 2.0 and 2.2 are front wheel drive only.

The 2.5 and 3.0 petrol are AWD.

Nope, def just the 2.5 and 3.0 petrol are 4wd.

The estates are great family hacks.

There's some cracking AWD X-types about, for not much cash. Great winter hacks, with a decent rep too.

It will definitely be better than a Z4 in the snow, either FWD or 4WD.

Although, I'm sure the Z4 could be made to be pretty capable in the snow with some winter tyres (and perhaps some second hand 16" rims from ebay)

I bought some 16" wheels and stuck some winter tyres on there. She caught some black ice and nearly killed herself.

The car was very un-nerving with winter tyres on. The ABS still kept kicking in...

There is very little that can find grip on black ice, and that inlcudes winter tyres (unless they are studded), but it's surprising to hear you had other problems with the winter tyres - what were you using? I can't imagine Pirelli Sottozeros behaving like that for example....

We had a 2.0D Sport estate for just over 3 years, with the 225/45/R17 Standard Pirelli P-Zeros it was hopeless in the snow, and I mean hopeless. Swopping to winter tyres (same size) made a world of difference to the point it got up a farm track I'd have previously said was 4x4 only territory.

Good cars for the money, they're very cheap now.
