Well, I've finally come to the conclusion that I just cannot justify keeping my Cerbera whilst I work away . So, the car will be in the classified once approved (though I secretly hope it doesn't sell for a while so I can get to Le Mans in it). Not a good day
I've never been less excited about getting a new car (a 5 series just isn't a TVR)

Don't get me started! I'm definately up for a beer. If you see Dusty's lot arrive, I'll be about 30 minutes behind them in a bland rep mobile . Or, if the Cerb doesn't go you'll hear me coming!

DJ, does it have to be a bland 5-series? You can get a 1996 Audi A8 4.2 with <60k on the clock for £6k if you shop around. Might not be a sports car, but at least it's got the right number of cylinders. Or are you doing lots of miles? There are plenty of sensible options that'll do 0-60 around the 6 second mark so you can at least have a bit of fun.

Too many miles for that I'm afraid. I need something semi-sensible on fuel.

How many miles a year are you looking at?

Gone to the first person who came to look . Ah well, it looks like it's going to a good home. I'm off to look at BMW's this afternoon which doesn't offer any consolation. However, I do need something to drive to Le Mans in.

Nope, if I was spending that sort of cash I'd get a t350t. The reason for changing is:

1) I don't want to devalue a car massively puttin 20k a year on it

2) I don't want to pay a fortune on fuel

3) I must be able to leave it in London and not worry it won't be there when I come back

I did the trip in the Cerbera yesterday. The car drove flawlessly and I really wish I could justify the cost of running it...

I did get a quote for an m3 too from Tesco insurance. It was £1200 more than the Cerbera!!

Current thinking is a 525i. It costs 1/2 the Cerb to insure, is common as muck, is comfortable and ok on fuel. What's more it's cheap to buy. Currently looking at 9-10k for a '99-01' with not massive miles.

Mate, so sorry to hear it. How come everyone seems to have to sell their Cerb as soon as the lights, zorst, wheels, interior, etc. get sorted.

If you can deal with the petrol costs, you can have an M5 for £20k... Just take the badge off.

Or how about something normal with a turbo (cheap-ish on fuel, and good economy)... A4 1.8 Turbo, etc.

Other options: Alfa 156 GTA, Audi S4, 9-3 Aero, Audi A8 2.8, or even an A6, X-type Jag, etc.

DJ, the Diesel versions make better sense for a mile muncher. Thats quite upsetting, but true, BMW's 3.0 diesel lump really is ace. A little side by side run with a 330d and a normal 330 revealed that there wasnt much in it up to the speed limit *cough* and perhaps beyond *cough* as a few neighbours of mine proved!

Come on, you can do better than a 5-series. I did 30k a year for 3 years in an Impreza. If you're going to be spending that much time on the road, you might as well have fun.

Too late guys - the deal's done.
I appreciate the suggestions. Maybe next time, once I've got some money out of the investment I've just put into my business!

edited to add: Why do you always find something better just as soon as you can't have it - www.pistonheads.com/sales/detail.asp?i=23549&s=242

If you bought from a dealer, just cancel the purchase. If you bought privately, just sell it for what you paid for it. Then buy yourself something with a turbo strapped on.

Private purchase, and not a bad one. I reckon I'll live with it for 6 months then reassess the situation.
