Saab sat nav and warrenty
Discussion
I am plunging towards a full on scrap with my Saab dealer.
My 58 plate 9-3 aero convertible has factory sat nav. Over the last few weeks it has been coming up with DVD read error as a message.
First couple of times I ejected the DVD and put it back in, and it worked. It's been getting worse and worse and suddently switched from navigating to DVD read error half way through a journey.
I took it in as it's under warrenty until Nov, and wouldn't you know that the bleedin thing worked fine. I got it home and the fault is back again.
The service manager is saying that he can't replace it for an intermittent fault. It now hasn't worked at all for the last 7 days and it's going in again on Thursday for a discussion.
I'm not being unreasonable in expecting it to be replaced am I? Anyone heard of similar problems with these units? Would a replacement DVD be the answer? Should I speak to Saab in advance of seeing the dealer again this week?

Ask the dealer for a £200 contribution so you can buy a Tomtom or Garmin - and let him put in a warranty labour claim for a few hours to cover the contribution.
It's more complicated than that, although they may be lending me a unit to tide me over. It's a personal lease car that goes back in November, which is when the car is 3 years old and the warranty runs out.. If it goes back without an operating sat nav the lease company are going to charge me.
If the dealer replaces the unit with a double din after market unit (kenwood or something) the lease company will charge me on the difference in value between an originally equipped car and one with a non original unit. even though that unit will be better than the rather hopeless original equipment unit.
If I buy the car off the lease company that obviously won't matter, but I am trying to get Saab to confirm that they will meet any costs incurred as a result of their failure to meet their warranty obligations.
They are now apparanty talking about taking a unit from the production line and sending it over.
Got Saab customer services UK on the case as well, but they are most insipid.
Anyone know the e-mail of someone further up the food chain in Saab?

Involve the lease company now. If it's a big one. e.g. Leaseplan etc. they have the clout with the manufacturer to sort it out. If it's a broker working from his conservatory you've no chance. You might have just found the cost of that cheap deal if this is the case!
Masterlease. Part of GM and now purchased by Investec. So not a small outfit. As useful as a chocolate teapot.
I know them, (used to be BM @ Saab). just give them all the details re warranty calims etc. and inform them that due to no fault of yours the vehicle may possible be returned with a faulty nav system. I assume your package is non-maintained, if it is maintained your 100% in the clear.
