Well that's just it. My last Ka with the super-asthmatic Endura engine seemed to get through drink like Oliver Reed at a free bar but the new one with the Duratec engine seems to be massively more frugal.

That's not far off the their oil consumption per mile is it

It's a bit childish to be automatically 'down' on people getting decent MPG - you could say that they're driving "like a senior citizen" - you could also say they're driving sensibly and not wasting fuel.

Assuming he didn't toddle around at 15mph and turn the engine off going down hills (I worked with someone who used to do that!!)

I just use it for commuting. The way into work is nice, twisty B-roads and I will happily defend the Ka as being 'a bit of a hoot' on such roads and I drive accordingly. The way home is just A14 and A1, sat behind a lorry at 55mph.

I actually find the KA quite fun. You can rag it everywhere and still be within the speed limits! Very willing to turn.

considering when my average is a massive 26.5mpg i thought that was good

I'll give 50 a go and report back with the results..
