Slow tyre pressure leak after tyre change

I had a rear tyre replaced a few months ago. Shamefully I only checked all my pressures again a couple of weeks ago and the new tyre had dropped right down to about 10psi. I re-inflated to 32psi, just checked again and it is down to 26 psi, so it's losing around 5psi per week roughly. I have jacked the car up and inspected the tyre all round and there is no sign of anything punctured or nasty bulges etc.

The tyre was done via blackcircles and an approved local fitter, do you think I could take it back to the fitter with my reciept printed off and ask for it to be checked out for free? If it is a puncture then fair enough, that's life but it could be not seated correctly which would be their fault, right?

After a few months there would be much sucking of teeth from the original fitters I think. Personally I'd just go to your nearest tyre fitter, get it sorted and put it down to experience

possibly the rim is rusted or corroded causing a small leak

you could could the stem is tight before going back

Ah, but with what? Back in the day the valve cap would have had a valve tool on it...

I was just going to ask how you do this! It is possible the rim is corroded, the tyre it replaced I think was the original so would have been seated and not moved for a good 5 years.

Anyway, fetch it into a tyre place and get them to refit it with lots of rim gloop paste. Had a similar issue with the Yokohamas on my Dolly Sprint and a good slathering of gloop sorted it. They haven't been checked for a couple of years now and show no signs of going down.

If it's been run on low pressure, the first thing you need to do is get it off the rim and check the inside for damage. If you've run it at 10psi, the chances are it's scrap.

Had similar problem with tyre fitted via blackcircle. Valve was leaking - fitter replaced it. Apparently, their policy is not to replace valves when fitting new tyres. I wasn't too impressed since I was left with a near flat tyre 15 miles from the nearest garage in the middle of the Scottish Highlands.. on a sunday! Fortunately found a garage, but their airline had a hole in it, so it was a two man job to blow up the tyre. I know now how the little lad felt who stuck his finger in a dutch dyke (not the female type!).

But in other instances, I've found that inflating the tyre up about 45psi, running it for about 5 miles, then deflating it back to correct pressure helps seal the bond between tyre and rim.

I had a similar problem, also after having tyres fitted by a blackcircles premium fitter.

I took the car to a local tyre place who found that air was leaking from the rim, and I was advised to get the wheel refurbed.

I did this, but still my slow leak persists from one wheel.

It isn't exactly difficult to improvise!
