Towing (a car on a trailer, not a caravan....) abroad.

I'm off to Italy in August, and taking my smart Crossblade on a trailer behind my SEAT Altea.

What i'm struggling to find is a list of speed limits etc for towing in France, Germany, Austria and Italy. By my reckoning the Crossblade and trailer are iro 850-900kg (car is 735kg), the Altea can tow up to 1400kg so that's fine, and the Altea itself weighs 1450kg.

The only thing I found suggested if it's under 3500kg in total the speed limits in France are the same as for the car alone, which I can't imagine is right for one moment!

Can anyone point me in the right direction of some more concrete information?

AFAIK max speed in France towing is 90kph pretty sure it is the same for most of Europe. The AA website is good for this sort of stuff.

Last time I went out, June, it was 80km on ordinary roads and 90km on the autoroutes, that's a definite for over 3.5 tons but not overly sure if it's under although I find those speeds quite adequate while towing.

The AA site doesn't appear to mention towing, but it's good for other driving abroad stuff.

BTW you are also supposed to display the 80 and 90 signs on the back of your trailer. One point to note is the speed limit is subject to the vehicle's legally plated gross train mass not what you are actually towing.
