That's not right

Started investigating why one of my speakers didn't work - They are all rusted up! Once I had removed the screws I had to prize them off the door! Before I replace them I will obviously have to make sure it is not going to happen again. I take it it's normal that the water gets into the door and the rubber 'flap' hang down the inside of the door is supposed to stop the water getting to the speaker? Both sides have a tear in the rubber which may explain how the water got to the speakers -should I be checking anywhere else? Just replace/fix the rubber sheet? Can the water get to them any other way?
