New "tough" camera on its way!

I've just bought myself an Olympus Tough TG-810 compact camera for every day use. They're popping up left-right and centre these days and seem very practical, especially for me living by the sea. I'm off sailing next week and I wanted something that would stand up a bit of a chance without going wrong in the spray! I didn't want to chance it with my DSLR!

The Olympus seemed to stand out technically from the rest sporting an array of features including:

- Waterproof down to 10m
- Crush proof up to 1000kg!
- Freeze proof down to -10C
- 5x optical zoom

On top of that, it has GPS, and a depth gauge so you can genuinely say how deep you've dived under water!

All this for just £189. Bargain I reckon!

Anyone else had experience with these type of cameras?

Saw an ad for a similar sounding Fuji in the press last week. Quite taken with the shock-proof idea as my kids are starting to get interested in using my gear :/

Be interested to hear what your experiences are and how you rate the IQ once you've had chance to get it wet and drop it a few times.

Yup, I'll give it a bit of a hard time and let you know how it comes out. Looking forward to playing in the sea with it!

I bought the Fuji last year - the shock proof bit of it has come in useful a fair few times (dropped it whilst getting action cycling shots), it's had no problem in the rain, but the photos it takes aren't exactly the best quality. Outside it's fine, but in low light it really struggles.
