Schizophrenic car for 3k??

Hello all

I'm in a bit of a quandry and was told this was the place to come to.

As my name suggests my wallet dosent get much use these days but I need a car that will be easy on the wallet in terms of running costs, not just fuel etc but also not ruinously expensive to fix if something does go wrong.

But I also want to have a bit of fun and a car I will look forward to getting into every day, wheteher the fun comes from decent handling + a little bit of poke or a lot of poke.

I'm in my 40's so a slammed 106Gti might not be the best option :-).
4 doors would be preferable.

I know I might be expecting too much...or am I?

I be very interested and grateful for any suggestions.

You could just go on the classified page and search for all cars between £2900 and £3000. Plenty on there.......

If you have a decent VAG specialist near you they'll look after it if you don't fancy doing it yourself. I've had 3 and they're good fun to drive, relaxed for the most part but capable of making 'good progress as the conditions allow.'

My st170 is better than that one its in mint condition with leathers,xenons,6 cd player, 75 k full service 1 owner etc op can have it for £3200

another vote for a vtec'd honda - mines a civic. economical and reliable, but hilarious when vtec kicks in - it just goes mental!

failing that, something old with a dinnerplate turbo and lots of lag. That'll be schizophrenic - right up until the point you're ejected backwards into a ditch.

Corrado is very tempting! I remember lusting after them when they were new.

VR4 is a bit of an oddity I think, is there not a lot of tech stuff in there that could be expensive? Mind you the earth could be destroyed next week by a super volcano eh?
Were they ever sold officially in the UK?

Honda Accord type R is also an interesting thought. Should be reliable enough>

Depends , I walk to work so I am lucky in that respect. Average , for me over 18k miles is around 18mpg and I do a lot of motorway miles .

Nice advert but an ST170 doesn't really seem 'schizophrenic' to me because the performance is warm and comes on in a fairly linear fashion.
