Just wondering what's normal rates for the Cerbera, the car currently drives terribly with the gaz shocks and springs going coil bound, they are 375 front and 300 rear, seems very soft at the rear, I will take the shocks to be rebuilt tomorrow, but wondering what rates I should be asking for.

Shocks = springs. I think the Gaz bits will be dampers.

I'd personally go much higher on the springs - 500f/400r or more up front on a Cerb. Especially with Gaz dampers - I am yet to see a Gaz damper that has enough travel for its application, all of the ones I have seen tend to ride quite often on thier bump stops, though I havent seen any from TVR's, so hopefully this is sorted/correctly specified for them. I'd also be very careful about what ride height you are running too for the same reason.

If we had kept the Cerb we would have gone for much higher spring rates and different dampers (we had Avos) - they were ok, but we always promised to get ourselves some properly trick stuff eventually... As it happens, the T350 is back to str8six for such work tomorrow I believe (Nitron two ways/ stiffer springs.)

I know Springs are the shock absorber, but the damper is termed shock absorber for most of the motor trade. I have Gaz on the Tuscan, they work ok, I put springs on the rear of a friends Cerb last month with rebuilt Nitrons (although rebuilt then needed new body, valves, rods, I think all that was left was the spring seats and the top caps) but I didn't get much time to play with the set-up and can't actually remember what rates went on it.

Sorry, the whole shocks/dampers thing is a pet hate of mine! hehe

Nitron themselves say their standard Cerbera kit is 400f 325r - I still think this is too low for a Cerbera though, or any modern TVR. http://www.nitron.co.uk/nitron09/index.php?main_pa...

I'd go higher all round still. smile

I think mates car had 350 on the rear and I upped that too 375 as was still too soft, clearly 300 is so soft they are just going coil bound, doesn't hit the bump stop though.

The spring/shock thing doesn't bother me, long as I get the thing driving OK anyone can call them what they like hehe

I recently put 500 on the front and 450 on the back - also with Gaz dampers. It is without doubt the best change I have made to the car. I was worried that I would ruin the ride but, if anything, it is improved and the body control is better.

Much, much better. I can't believe how wrong TVR got it.

This sounds good. We're going just slightly softer than that on the T350 - but it weighs 100kilos less and I was worried it would effect its road-car manners too much going stiffer... Glad it has improved things James. thumbup

Sounds like a much stiffer spring is needed.
