Apologies if this has been asked before.

I purchased a car recently, and whilst I'm sure it wasn't there on the test drive, over time the smell of cigarette smoke has developed. Clearly the previous owner had a pretty heavy habit !

Any good suggestions on how to get rid of the smell ? Air freshners cover for a while, but it soon comes back.

Fabreze?
Also clean the carpets and every hard surface with a household cleaner. Including the windows. On a sunny day leave all the windows open. Worked for me when I smoked

Cut an onion into 4 pieces, distribute them around the interior of the car and leave overnight. Onion has a fantastic ability to absorb odours.

The onion smell doesn't linger. Try it, it really does work. Also good if you have bad smells in your fridge wink

Also change the cabin filters. I dare say these are holding a fair bit of the smell.

Thanks all.

An onion sounds like a quick and easy fix, so will try that first smile

Any recommendations on products to clean the fabric seats, carpet and hard plastics ?

Megs All Purpose Cleaner (APC) run it through a foam action trigger. It's great stuff and you can use it all other the place. Engine bay, tyres, exterior through a foam gun before a deep clean etc. It's about £15 for a US gallon but you dilute that down either 4 or 10 to 1 with water so will last you a while. I use mine through my vax on the carpets at home when they need a clean.

Clean everything, remove trim and dash panels, clean behind things you can't see... them hire an ozone generator.

Alternatively pay someone with an ozone generator to clean the interior for you.
