I popped this message up on E36coupe but I thought I try here too smile

Hiya guys,

Just a quick question about the servicing schedule on a 328 Sport. I had an oil service carried out at just under 74k miles at the end of March this year - my car has has now got just under 79k miles and my amber light has popped on telling me I need an inspection. Isn't 5k miles and 4 months a tad to soon for the next service? I know the kind of driving you do effects when the car dictates a service is due and how fast the green lights get knocked off, but that 5k miles has been motorway driving at a very leisurely pace so I've been very easy on her!

Before the oil service in March, I had the big inspection 2, carried out just over a year ago at 61k miles.

So my question is, is my car lying to me and the service lights are playing up or is 5k miles of easy driving enough to prompt the next service - that's like 1 green light every 1000 miles, that can't be right!?!?

Cheers guys.

That sounds a bit odd. If you can do 13k miles between your inspection II and oil service, it seems strange that the car now thinks it needs a service only 5k miles later, particularly if you've been doing gentle motorway driving as you say.

My E36 isn't as modern as yours (325i) but it typically asks for a service every 7k miles and is pretty consistent in that respect and has been over its 163k miles.

Have you had any responses on E36coupe yet? I'd be interested to know what the consensus is.

This can be shortened if the previous service intervals haven't been conducted in the alloted time i.e running the car on the warning lights for an extended time.

each green light is about 1200 miles, with them running out twice as fast if the temp is below full operating temperature, or the revs are above about 3500.

ie. cold or hard driving gets through your green lights faster.

Pretty much the same as here mate, though one member reckons the car doesn't remember the gap between the previous service - even if it did, 13 + 5 = 18, 18k miles [and 13 months] for an Inspection 1 & 2 and an oil service seems a bit to much! I'm going to see what my Indy says.
