Yes, not just to save the animal in question but to avoid the expensive damage hitting one causes.

Doesn't look like his tail is gone... But that was a very lucky escape!

I don't swerve if it would put me in danger, but I do come across rabbits and various daft birds all the time on the roads near my house, I just slow down and most of the time they run away.

Had a nasty incident with a deer once, was on a main road at night on dipped beam because there was another car in the distance, and a deer decided to run out in front of the car! Was a bloody massive one too, so I swerved to avoid it and the whole car ended up sideways

[PH] I did manage to hold the slide, and the car ended up back on the correct lane facing the right direction. Passengers were very impressed (and also terrified) [\PH]

Ironically I swerved to avoid a fox at a roundabout a few months ago and crashed my car...

I wish I had hit it.

If you had gone through the hassle I went through which was documented on my thread on mx5nutz you would understand.

I would rather have had a bit of damage to my front bumper than what I had.

Im quite suprised it wasn't flipped up in the air or dragged along behind in its wake after that.I was at silverstone in 2003 for the F1 GP,sat on the pits straight and during the porsche cup race a very large hare decided to run across the track and was hit by a car at well over 100mph.
The noise it made as it hit was sickening,it went under the car,came out of back as a ball of blood and guts and was dragged about 200 yards down the pit straight in the cars air flow!
