A mates tipped me off to an E280 which his neighbour will sell soon for around the £800 mark. Now normally wouldn't even contemplate buying but heres the story.Only 2 owners, last owner 10years is an MB mechanic, early history from same maindealer then the current owner has done work on a regular basis but no paper trail. Not had a close look at the car but I know I'ts a 4 speeder no aircon, grey leather is near perfect, solid underneath solid wings sold with new MOT ,122K on the clock. So would I be mad.

Mine was even less than that, been a great car. No leather though, which would have been nice.

I say go for it!!

And you say 'neighbour' - so should have been observed over a period - care / use in that period.
As long as its not doing 20k per year or the fuel could be a bit expensive - sounds perfect.

I assume it's a saloon... A decent W124 will be cheap to run and will retain all of that value over the next few years. So it's a no-brainer, really

Extra brownie points if it has a/c!

I'd take it, that sounds like a great smoker to run around in.

Mercedes fans of the world unite...

Yes, buy it, at least it will be interesting. Don't turn down the chance for a test drive though as a new auto box wouldn't be cheap.

The owner looks after my mates 190E and a previous C180(98model),I did wonder about the price as I expected it to be closer to £1500.I haven't viewed the car yet simply because it's not that local and everyone concerned has hols booked for the next month or so.I do know it's silver with grey leather I also suspect the owner might decide to hang on to it simply because he can't find anything to replace it with.Might be October before anything happens ,he actually turned down an offer recently because he didn't like the guy who'd approached him.
