this aint gonna be a write off is it?

FIL reckons it could be (he went to collect something out of the boot from the recovery depot and had a quick look)

the drivers door wont open and he thinks the frame is bent?

the other driver cut across the missus, caught her wheel and snapping something, then slammed on, causing her to pile into the back of him. doing about 20-30mph.

Well there is a bloody great gap at the top and the bottom looks like there is no gap by the door. Looks to me like the wing has pushed into the door hinge area.

I bet a new front bumper isnt cheap.

Add the wing, whatever needs doing to suspension and steering and the door and you could be well on the way.

How old is the car, what is it worth? Surely this is a major factor to whether it ie uneconomical to repair or not.....?

ETA; if your figures above are correct I would say it will be fixed.

5/8s the value

so less than 5/8 of 8k...... 5k

any half decent insurance repairer should see change from 2k all in on that

which is what, £40 or so?

so parts for well under £500, then 4 or 5 hours work perhaps?

£1000 absolute max imo.

i bet the repair bill is more than double that.

wonder if i will ever see it?

Surely there can't be that much damage? That looks like a 5mph knock into a pole. I know it isn't but still surely there can't be much damage.

i didnt think so either.

it was the father in law than had a closer look and said the a-frame was bent.

he is an ex-motor mechanic.

but also blind as a bat.

Don't know, could be double that for genuine citroen tie rod.

Those parts you linked to, are then genuine citroen or pattern, if pattern the could be considerably more for gen parts.

If it's just superficial and a tie rod then I doubt it'll be written off

If the A-pillar is indeed bent it will almost certainly be written off

Either way the best thing to do is have a chat with the assessor and basically discuss what you want to do with it, i.e. would you rather it were repaired or written off. Even better, be present when the car is inspected.

I wouldn't leave it to the repairing garage to have this conversation, from first hand experience they have a tendency to sugar coat things to get the work.
