Has anyone bought or seen one of these:

I could use some decent music in the DS and this looks like it will fit in nicely.

I've just got an amp in the boot and some hidden speakers, with a jack cable to plug my iPhone into. Works great, is discreet and easy to use.

The potential snag with an iPhone set up is that if you are seen by Inspector Knacker holding the phone in order to change track or adjust volume, you may be spoken to harshly and have to shell out some wonga. Is the phone fixed into a docking station? Even so, I think that using a touch screen menu is more likely to impair situational awareness when driving than twiddling a knob on a stereo.

My Lotus has an original PYE stereo cassette player, which would have been the height of cool in 1973, but it suffers at present from engine interference and attempts to block this so far have failed. My Jensen has a modernish Kenwood unit with a CD changer in the boot. The 8 track player is long gone. My Alfa has never had a stereo and just has a Pininfarina logo blank where one would go. Maybe if and when I ever get it back on the road I will fit something suitably late 70s looking.

Nah, I just stick on a play-list and let it get on with it. Tucks down the side of my seat with the volume control easy to reach without looking. If the phone rings I just ignore it, it'll only be the wife wondering when I'm due back to give her a vigorous bout of intercourse.

Do you have non-standard speakers in your Spit, though? I seem to remember seeing a pic where there was a speaker behind the seats. I've still got the original MW radio and speakers in my Spit, still working fine :]

Yeah it has a sony head unit and alpine speakers in the rear. It all works fine and sounds ok but it isn't original and I find it quite irritating in fairness. I would prefer it if it all looked nice and original but I had more important things to sort when I got it.

Original is nice but there's not a lot on the medium wave these days!

Classic Gold - what better sound track in your classic complete with whistles and fading (for those that can remember them)

a full two and a half watts so no loud exhaust

admittedly the nostalgia and fun soon wane but when a favourite 60/70s track comes on and your driving a car from that time it all seems worth while again

Highway Star, Deep Purple

autobahn, kraftwerk before synths and samplers, these guys were cutting edge!

I have only used the stereo once while driving for this exact reason! I prefer to listen to the engine anyway to make sure everything is running ok (actually I just love the bellow!)

There was a similar thing to this on DealXtreme for around $30, showing now as temporarily sold out. Not quite the same, a little cheap looking, but $30 including shipping. I am considering one of their DIN-fitting ones which are a little dearer. Trouble is they don't do RDS on the radio side, so that's not so good.
