Oh FFS. I was just looking out of the kitchen window over the park and a f**king great line of caravans has just rolled over the parkland and parked up.

Cops are on their way, apparently. Two cars vs a large number of caravans.

Apart from taking the usual precautions and locking everything up securely any recommendations.

And how long can I expect before they're moved on?

Oh shit. I could really, *really* do without this....

my brother had the same problem, bib were frightened to attend, break in's went up, car crime went up. Only time bib showed up was when my brother threatened to shoot the bastards.
The mess they left behind was incredable.

keep your fingers crossed that they **** off asap.

Had some near us in Burgess Hill a while ago who were there for 2 days & then upped sticks without leaving a mess. It can happen............

Just not very often. The rest of the feckers left the place a right state.

I can only repeat others advice to lock everything up and keep vigilant.
They are not all bad but there are a few that are.

Thanks chaps...

Very worrying. Unfortunately our house backs onto the park. Usually a strong point. Today its not.

Bugger!

Do you have a fence? You can get some brown plastic spikes from DIY shops which will tear their fingers to shreds if they try to climb over.
A reliable source (doing time for burglary) informs me that they are more of a put off than glass set in concrete etc. It's a shame most preventative measures look horrible.
It's a bit late now but hawthorn at the back of your house that will put all but the SAS off gaining access from that direction.
Good Luck!

I'm afraid its a derogatory term for people who choose not to live in houses or fixed dwellings but instead travel in motor-homes and what you Americans call trailers (I believe) dragged behind SUVs.

Not all of them are bad.

Unfortunately its a proven fact that wherever they settle for a few weeks the crime rate goes up significantly. The do-gooders claim its racist to be concerned - as originally Europe had Gypsies as an ethnic group - and they did have a travelling lifestyle.

These days there is no ethnic background to the travellers - just a way of life - travelling from place to place doing itinerant work (one hopes) and, sad to say, not working at all and committing crimes.

Like I say - not all are bad. Just enough that when house dwelling folk see them invading private land and parking up without permission on it near their own houses they do get a little worried.

There you go. An education for you, young man.

Its polite to call these people "Travellers" its considered impolite to call them - "Pikeys". Which I did. Because I'm a nasty man.

The Hawthorn thing is a long term investment at the moment. I really must consider doing something about the fence though....something sharp I think!

are you sure its not the caravan club? its often difficult to distinguish between a genune caravanner and a pikey.

its normally only the tarmac lorries, fencing vans, tree pruning pick ups and the foot deep rubbish that gives it away....

The term pikey comes from the vernacular term for ittenenant irish labourers who worked on road construction, which where termed turnpikes :ergo Pikey.

Regrettably and ridiculously this is apparently a civil 'offence'. For some obsure reason you are required as a householder to maintain a safe environment for criminals who (try to) enter your property ... otherwise they can sue you. Wish we had the system in some US states where (if) you shoot dead one of the crooks on your premises and the other(s) get done for murder! - Streaky

Lord knows if they'll head in your direction. Hopefully not...

Lets hope they move on peacefully in short order prior to the local KKK doing their thing...

Its ended in tears before now...
