Free parking in Portsmouth

Anyone know any free/cheap parking near the ferry in Portsmouth? Need to leave my car there for a week and want to find it there when I get back!

Closest safe (ish) would be around Chichester rd , north end . Most streets off of it are unrestricted afaik . Beware of local reprisals though - the majority of Portsmouth is victorian terrace with no off road parking so the residents of these areas can be a bit defensive . I've heard of unknown long staying cars being shunted onto yellow lines in the past !

I assume you mean the continental ferry as opposed to the Isle Of Wight one, just as they are in completely different parts of the city?

Assuming so, as advised - pretty much any of the roads to the East side of the main London Road are ok (Chichester Road, Powerscourt Road etc) but avoid the West side (Sterling Street, Gamble Road and surrounding roads) as they go into Buckland where there is quite a high vehicle crime rate.

Powerscourt Road etc are around half a mile to a mile away, so quite a long walk if you have lots of luggage and espeically if the weather is crap, however if you parked a bit further North on London Road in Amberley Road / ovett Road Wesley Grove or around there (further up off the main London Road and paralell running Copnor Road) the car will be fine there as nothing really goes on there at all with no passing scumbags and is again unrestricted, and "Aqua Cars" are Portsmouths cheapest taxis and would be literally £3 or £4 to be dropped at the check in with your luggage - thier number is 02392 654321 ir 02392 818123. They are by far Portsmouths biggest taxi firm and even if you waited until parked up and called one they would be there within 5 mins or so.
