So if it has beards it's folk music?

I'm heading that way a bit too.
One of my favourite gigs from this year's Glasto was a folk band called Three Daft Monkeys. The same festival also completely changed my opinion of Mumford and Sons. There are friends who would instantly disown me for saying this, but I thought they were really good live...

You can have a beard and not do folk, but it is more or less compulsory to have some kind of face fuzz if you are a folk musician.
It's actually the reason that guy bellowed "JUDAS" at Dylan. Judas didn't have a beard, you see.
If you listen to Skyclad, you can have Folk Thrash Metal, cunning lyrics and titles and all (Think back and lie of England, for example).
Or Polkageist.
Mine's a pint.
Of mead.

Folk is cool - just those who think they're cool aren't really as they don't like folk.
I have loved folk music since 1973, Nailsworth Folk Club at the George Hotel. Proper beer, beards, singing, and Saturday night Ceilidhs at the Sub Rooms. Quaker dancing - twice round the floor and then outside for your oats. </nostalgia>
Interesting how folk is much derided by those who don't get it, but nevertheless it has had an enormous influence on all sorts of great bands from Led Zep/Jethro Tull right the way through to modern stuff.
