Driving to Les Gets
Discussion
Did it a few years back to Morzine (round the corner from Les Gets)
If you have kids and need to get there quickly, I'd just hop the toll road and nail it to Reims, skim past Dijon, Bourg on Bresse and on to Les Gets, there's nobody on there until you hit the mountains.
Not sure how much the tolls are now though.
You could use the back roads if you want a more leisurely run, or if you're not in a rush to get to Les Gets a detour a bit further South to stop and have dinner in Annecy before heading over the Alps is always a good shout.

I did Doncaster - Morzine this past season.
Set off from doncaster at 15:00 ferry was at 00:00 arrived in morzine at 09:00 with a few stop offs
We did the Toll Roads and i think this was a rough cost of about 130 euros return. I would reccomend the Toll roads i did the 4am - 8am stint in france and only recall passing a handfull of cars. They are far better than our motorways as they are usualy empty!
I cant recall the exact route as TomTom took us there!
I Think:
A26 >> A5 >> A31 >> A39 >> A40 >> off at Cluses then Mountain roads to les Gets then onto morzine
There were 2 of us driving working in 4 hour stints with Haribo and Redbull!
Would i do it again . . . Possibly we did get an extra 2 days on the slopes!

I do this trip quite regularly... I usually avoid the tolls on the way down - go across belgium, luxumberg and down, nip around Geneva...
it takes about 2hrs longer and probably a bit more in petrol... but saves the toll and the roads from lux down to morzine are fantastic once you get off the motorway...
I usually go back via the tolls as I'm knackered and just want to get home asap...
I once did half of the trip down through france with the satnav set to 'avoid toll roads' but the A roads that are near by are quite slow - lots of towns and lots of trucks which are slow to get passed when your into a RHD car and can't see very well.
Usuaully do it solo as my biking mates prefer to fly into morzine, but I love to have a fun car in the alps and I can take both my bikes and loads of spares.
There are quite a few great roads near by - particularlly going from Morzine / Les gets over to the chatel bike park via a mountain pass which is hardly used by traffic:

mmm watching that video again, I must get back there!
I live in london and can usually leave early in the morning and arrive in time for a (late) dinner at the chalet.
