Good day all.

Quick question if you will.

Were there any revisions made to the Z4 M Coupe between the earlier 2006 cars and the later 2008 models? I'm thinking engine, gearbox, suspension, steering etc.

Thanks.

No changes at all to the important bits. I think there is a slight difference in the stitching of the seat bolsters, but if I did not tell you, you would not have known...

Ady I have found something similar but it wasn't related to age, I've driven a few now and some of them feel completely different. One I was in the other month, identical to mine bar the colour and tyre choice was much stiffer and crashier. I've heard other people saying the same too.

Makes sense, i test drove a few and could easily tell the deifference between some - setup felt all wrong

like you say it may explain why you felt like you did about one smile

try and get in a few more so you can build a broader picture of one.

They're very sensitive to tyres and geometry. You probably tested a bit of a duffer in those stakes.

I'd say tyres are very important to the feel.... I've woked through 1 & 1/2 sets of Conti M3s and things get very different (ride, traction) with <50% tread - also pressures... I check weekly.

The Z4MC I own (and currently on Pistonheads Classifieds) has been a revelation to me.

Tyres: I have spent £5,000 in 4 years.
Wheels: CSL and std.
Suspension: Std and aftermarket.
Brakes: Std and AP's.

As a road car in my mind it is best on standard 18's with a 'sensible' geo. It is so relaxing driving it standard compared to hard shocks, cup tyres, noisy (but nice) exhaust etc etc.

Yes the cars vary a lot - but if it is mechanically sound, a geo and new set of tyres will have it running real sweet!

"Relaxing" isn't a word normally associated with Z4Ms! I found mine exhausting on any journey longer than an hour or so.
Her-in-doors absolutely detested it, said she'd rather sit in a dentists chair.
Gave me an ache in my hip every time I drove it, old before my time!

Strange - mine was the main car for a while and I loved its Jekyll and Hyde personality. Did Calais to Geneva in one go a few times and the car felt like a mini GT. The Mrs still loves it, and so do I, but where do you fit the baby seat? Ah, in the E61 M5 I think...

I believe the early ones don't have the passenger seat airbag deactivation and ISOFIX fittings for a child seat. But other than that, I don't know of anything.

What is this talk about discomfort in Z4MCs? My Z4MC is the most comfortable GT car I've ever driven. The seats are so supportive, the car feels so taught and precise.

I've driven mine from London to Aberdeen only stopping for petrol/toilet stops, arriving refreshed and exilerated. This is what GT cars are about.

Mine was really comfortable, chopped it in for another Elise as I was missing the rawness too much. It's still for sale at BMW Derby after 4 months for some reason....

Because they're asking for way too much considering its mileage!

(Fancy saying what you got as trade price?)
